October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The good news is that more women than ever before are surviving a diagnosis of breast cancer thanks to early detection and more effective, safe and tailored treatments.
Finding breast cancer early provides the best chance of surviving the disease.  Take the time to get to know the normal look and feel of your breasts while showering, dressing or looking in the mirror (this includes you too guys!).  It’s never too early to start being breast aware and it’s important to keep up the habit, even if you are having regular mammograms.
Did you know that eating certain types of foods can help us to avoid and fight off Breast Cancer?  Foods that can help fight Breast Cancer include:

  • Tempeh - (a soy based protein) is high in isoflavones,
  • Olives - which are high in oleic acid,
  • Mushrooms - which contains a carbohydrate called beta glucan may protect against breast cancer,
  • Baby spinach - which is a member of the carotenoid family, is a breast-healthy food and finally,
  • Popcorn - which is a high-fibre wholegrain snack food that may provide some protection against cancer.

So lets get eating to protect ourselves!!! YUM!
